Notes/Description

Please join us for our first-ever Reimbursement Forum on Tuesday, November 12 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lansing. This program will provide you with an update on everything you need to know to ensure that you have an operational system for compliance with billing, payments, medical necessity and quality of care in place in your facility.

Reimbursement Update
Presented by Jon Lanczak & Larry Kearney, Plante Moran
This session will look at the changes in current and future Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement systems. On October 1, 2019 Medicare transitioned to the new system called Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM). We will examine the impact of this new system on facility operations, therapy contracts and payments for Medicare services along with other Medicare concerns with sequestration and Value
Based Purchasing. Medicaid topics will include the latest on the Quality Measure Initiative (QMI), audit and cost reporting timelines enacted with PA 612 of 2018 and related audit issues. The session will also discuss the impact of managed care on facility operations and payments from the Medicare Advantage, Healthy Michigan and MI Health Link programs.

Reimbursement Roundup: Perks and Penalties of Reimbursement Reform
Presented by Sarah Ragone, Core Tactics Inc.

CMS has replaced the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Resource Utilization Group (RUG) payment system with the new Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) for Medicare Part A payments. However, it’s more than just PDPM that will be impacting SNF revenue as CMS continues to move steady with their focus on quality;
1) the SNF Quality Reporting Program (QRP) will issue 2 percent payment penalties if facilities are not in compliance with the required MDS coding, and
2) the SNF Value Based Purchasing (VBP) program targeting hospital readmission rates – up to another 2 percent penalty facilities will receive if they are not performing well. This program will provide attendees with a comprehensive overview of these programs/ initiatives, discuss how they can potentially impact revenue for the upcoming fiscal year, present processes to ensure ethical billing practices and review strategies to improve and sustain performance through data collection and Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI).
