Association Update

HCAM works every day to provide support, information, education, and advocacy on behalf of our assisted living community and skilled nursing facility members. To that end, HCAM is moving away from using the “Michigan Center for Assisted Living” name to simply be known as one group – all under the Health Care Association of Michigan umbrella.

The entire HCAM staff is here to help all of our members navigate the complex and sometimes confusing issues facing long-term care. In addition, our new Vice President of Assisted Living, Jenny Post, joined the team in January. With a strong understanding of the association and member services, she will be a critical part of our team in serving our assisted living members. Also in January, for better continuity and understanding of the continuum of care, assisted living members Mike McElroy, with Highland Assisted Living and Memory Care in Jackson, and Sue Hamm, with Christian Haven Home in Grand Haven, joined the HCAM Board of Directors.

Region Dues Discontinued

In December, the HCAM Board of Directors voted to discontinue the assessment of HCAM region dues, which have been paid over the years to fund activities in each region. As the majority of the regions have become less active and participation has waned, the board recognized that there was no reason to continue to collect funds for these purposes. Over the last month, HCAM worked with members in each region to determine the best use of the remaining funds. In addition, steps will be taken at the General Membership Meeting to amend the HCAM Constitution to reflect this change.
