Hosting an elected official in your facility

YOU are the best advocate for the long-term care profession. Nothing helps ensure our message resonates with elected officials like hosting them in your facility where they can meet your residents and staff and see what it is you do on a daily basis. Your facility is an important business in your legislator’s district and many residents and staff are their constituents.

In most instances, you will have greater knowledge about the profession than the legislator – use this as an opportunity to educate him/her on your experience and the challenges you face. These visits are a great chance to build a relationship with your legislator that can be beneficial in our advocacy efforts in Lansing.

Give the legislator a tour of the facility, introducing him/her to residents and staff. Oftentimes facilities will schedule a time for a Q&A with the legislator and residents and staff.

Below, you’ll find a draft email that can be used to invite your legislator to your facility, along with talking points/structure for the visit. HCAM encourages ALL member facilities to host their state and federal legislators. If you would like assistance in scheduling a visit, contact Rich Farran.
