Biden Administration Announces Executive Actions to Improve Care
Yesterday, President Biden’s Administration issued a detailed fact sheet announcing what they described as “the most sweeping set of Executive Actions to improve care in history.” The fact sheet highlighted Executive Actions taken to improve care and an Executive Order that includes more than 50 directives. The fact sheet specifically notes the fiscal year 2024 budget call for investments to support long-term care.
The fact sheet also directs the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to consider building “on the minimum staffing standards for nursing homes and condition a portion of Medicare payments on how well a nursing home retains workers.”
Other provisions that impact LTC include encouraging providers to establish incentives to recruit and retain workers; publishing a sample employment agreement so long-term care workers and employers better understand their rights and responsibilities around unionizing, compensation and support; promoting apprenticeship programs; and much more. HCAM will continue to provide members with updates as more details become available.
