Adult Foster Care Licensing Act Update
On June 22, 2023, Rep. Stephanie Young introduced House Bill 4841. The provisions of this bill are detrimental to licensed Adult Foster Care communities in Michigan. HCAM’s concerns include the following: the requirement to have 24/5 LPN coverage; requirement to have social workers; requirement for staff, resident and family satisfaction surveys; implementation of civil monetary penalties, and much more. HCAM formed a coalition with other associations and entities that also oppose the bill. We are meeting regularly and have requested a meeting with the bill sponsor, relevant committee chairs, and House and Senate leadership.
Advocacy from staff and providers is always the most effective. You can get involved by hosting an elected official at your Adult Foster Care community. HCAM provides helpful information on this here. We will continue to provide updates throughout this process. Be on the lookout for a Call to Action in the coming weeks. Please reach out to Jenny Post if you have questions.
