Advocacy Efforts Regarding CMS Minimum Staffing Mandate
HCAM and the American Health Care Association (AHCA) continue to advocate against the Minimum Staffing Mandate, for which the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a proposed rule on September 1.
Outreach: HCAM is working with AHCA and a national public relations firm to help get the word out that federal mandates will only worsen the LTC staff shortage. Op-eds were published in the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press outlining the devastating impact this rule could have on both providers and community members needing care. In addition, with your help, we have ramped up legislative visits to facilities and are collaborating with the Michigan Health & Hospital Association (MHA) to engage U.S. Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow on this issue.

Upcoming Webinar: On Monday, September 11, at 2 p.m. AHCA will host “Contacting CMS On Minimum Staffing Requirements” — a webinar to walk you and your team through the steps to submit comments on the staffing mandate. Everyone has the right to submit comments to CMS to let the department know what you think about the rule. AHCA set a goal of generating 10,000 unique comments over the next 60 days.
