MDHHS Durable Medical Equipment Presentation
On March 20, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) hosted a webinar on Medicaid Coverages for Durable Medicaid Equipment (DME) in Nursing Facilities. The presentation included a discussion on what DME is and is not included as part of a facility per diem.
Included in per diem (not an exhaustive list):
- Hospital beds
- Enteral formulas
- Standard manual wheelchairs
- Surgical dressings/bandages (some exceptions)
- Diabetic test strips
Not included in per diem (not an exhaustive list):
- Parenteral nutrition/supplies
- Power wheelchairs
- Manual wheelchairs with custom seating
- Prosthetic limbs
- Speech generating devices
The presentation also discussed the process of obtaining authorization for power wheelchairs and manual wheelchairs with custom seating, as well as obtaining DME in a transition from a skilled nursing facility to the community.
