Earned Sick Time Act Resources Now Available Online

The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) now has resources available on their website including an Earned Sick Time Webinar recording and FAQs to assist employers as you prepare to implement the Earned Sick Time Act on February 21, 2025. As previously shared, on July 31, the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that the Michigan Legislature’s “adopt and amend” tactic used in 2018 to alter ballot initiatives on minimum wage and sick time was unconstitutional, resulting in the planned implementation of the initiatives on February 21, 2025.

In addition to implementing the Earned Sick Time Act, the court also ruled that the state minimum wage will rise to $12.48 an hour on February 21, 2025, $13.29 in 2026, $14.16 in 2027 and $14.97 in 2028. Thereafter, the minimum wage will rise with inflation. HCAM continues to work with legislators to modify the paid sick leave law before it takes effect. Questions? Please email Rich Farran.
