CMS Releases State Performance Standards System Findings (SNF)

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) annually assesses each state survey agency’s performance on the State Performance Standards System (SPSS). Of the seven performance measures for nursing facilities, Michigan’s survey agency (the Bureau of Survey and Certification) missed one measure (S6), partially met another (S8) and met the other standards.

• Not Met: “S6. Intakes prioritized as IJ started within the required time period (NH and ACC).” At least 80% of survey agency investigations of IJ intakes must be started within the required time period.
• Partially Met: “S8. Frequency of Nursing Home Recertification Surveys.” Survey agencies must conduct a health recertification survey at each active nursing facility at least once every 15.9 months.

CMS requires state agencies to develop corrective action plans to address any performance measures that they did not meet and oversee the corrective action plan implementation. You can view the state-by-state breakdown of performance measures here.
