MDHHS Releases Lump Sum Payments (SNF)

MDHHS released the payments appropriated in the FY 2022 budget bill under section 1968 of Public Act 87 of 2021. Section 1968 provides a one-time payment to each nursing facility at a rate of 1.5% of the Medicaid rate including the QAS amount effective October 1, 2021 times paid Medicaid days of care from FY 2019. The total payments for nursing facilities amounts to $37.5 million distributed out over 8.8 million days of care.

Medicaid Vent providers were also entitled to these funds based on their FY 2021 rate times 7.457% then times the Medicaid days from FY 2019. Payments to the eleven Medicaid vent unit providers totaled $2.4 million over 59,000 days of care.

Nursing facilities currently involved in a change of ownership will receive their lump sum payments once the sale is complete. Seventeen providers are in this category for sales occurring the last few months. These facilities will receive their payments when the sales transaction is complete through the department’s process.
