Upcoming USA Today Series (SNF)

USA Today reporters have been working on an investigative series of articles that are expected to paint a negative picture of skilled nursing facilities and how the fall/winter COVID surge in 2020 was handled. The series will examine cases and deaths, especially among the largest companies and REITs. They are also planning on a database that ranks all of the facilities across the country based on deaths, infections and staffing as well as a consumer guide.

It is expected the articles will be picked up by most if not all of the Gannett publications throughout the country. In Michigan those include larger publications like the Detroit Free Press and Lansing State Journal as well as smaller publications like the Sault News and Sturgis Journal.

AHCA has been in discussions with reporters and editors in an attempt to balance the articles and explain the uniqueness of the impact of COVID on the profession. It is anticipated the articles will begin to run on Tuesday, March 8th but that is not confirmed at this time.
