Leading In Times of Crisis: A Decompression Session
1/13/20211pm2:30pm

Published by: Elly Cabral
Presenter: Claudia Blumenstock

Description

After rave reviews of our keynote at the 2020 HCAM/MCAL Annual Convention, we are bringing Claudia back one more time for a standalone webinar on November 12 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm ET.

This interactive session provides a setting to discuss how leaders have felt about carrying the responsibility for the health and safety of residents and staff during the pandemic. Collective discussion will focus on coping mechanisms and problem-solving techniques that have been used throughout the crisis. Workforce engagement strategies will be explored, which are designed to help staff process this experience in a way that supports their resilience.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on long term care facilities has been unprecedented, leading to increased personal and professional stress on its leaders and staff. Leaders can benefit from the opportunity to share and process the effects of managing through a crisis and gain support from one another. Conscious and purposeful action can help to successfully navigate through a crisis. Being present, thoughtful listening and good communication can create a “ladder of support” for staff, that reduces stress and promotes staff cohesiveness.

  • Describe the psychological stressors inherent in leading through a crisis
  • Discuss techniques to decrease and manage stress
