CMS Provides Opportunity to Test Coding and Train for New MDS System (SNF)

In last week’s Open Door Forum, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) shared that they will release training opportunities for providers to learn more about the Minimum Data Set (MDS) changes slated to take effect October 1, 2023. This spring, CMS will release a series of recorded video trainings to aid providers in learning more about the MDS changes. Additionally, in mid-summer, CMS will host live virtual training sessions that will provide more in-depth training, including the removal of Section G and the impact and changes to the quality measures and staffing measures in the Five-Star Quality Rating System. CMS expects to post the final MDS item sets in early April 2023. Final data specifications are expected to be released in May 2023. Training opportunities will commence once those releases are complete.
