COVID Case Notification Clarification (SNF/AL)

With the recent updates to the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) Epidemic Orders, including the October 4, 2022 – Amendment to Order under MCL 333.2253 Requirements for Residential Care Facilities, HCAM contacted MDHHS to clarify COVID positive case reporting requirements against the federal requirements as outlined in QSO-20-29-NH.

The MDHHS October 4, 2022, Epidemic Order identifies that new COVID cases are to be communicated to employees, residents, and legal guardians as soon as reasonably possible, but no later than 12 hours after identification. Please note that the state required timeframe is more stringent than federal requirements, which say that notification must be made no later than 5 pm the following day. Be sure to follow the state requirements.
