Helps Us Advocate on Your Behalf: Make Your Voice Heard on Changes to Paid Leave

Due to a recent Michigan Supreme Court decision, Michigan’s Earned Sick Time Act will take effect February 2025. The act’s major provisions are summarized in the survey. They include the following:

  • The act mandates that every employer – regardless of the number of individuals employed – offer earned sick time. Employees must earn one hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked.
  • Sick time must accrue with hours worked; the act does not allow frontloading of sick time.
  • Employees are not required to give notice of use if the need to use sick time is not foreseeable.
  • If employers require employees to provide medical documentation when using paid sick time, employers must cover employee expenses incurred to meet this requirement.
  • The act applies to ALL full-time and part-time employees.

HCAM is working with legislators to soften the impact of the act on employers before its effective date in February. Your feedback will be valuable in our advocacy efforts. Please complete the survey by the close of business this Friday, October 4Questions? Email HCAM’s Richie Farran.
