MDHHS Issues Bulletin to Correct Income-Related Medicaid Asset Policy

On October 2, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released a Michigan Medicaid Policy Bulletin, MMP 23-58, to correct current policy on how to classify stimulus payments for Michigan residents who qualify for Medicaid. The change is effective January 1, 2024. Current MDHHS policy had incorrectly indicated that the three federal government stimulus payments sent out in 2020 and 2021 were subtracted from a Medicaid fiscal group’s total assets when determining Medicaid eligibility rather than subtracted from the Medicaid fiscal group’s cash assets when determining countable assets for Medicaid eligibility.
