Meet Senator Sarah Anthony Senate Appropriations Committee Chair

Sarah Anthony was elected in November 2022 to her first term in the Michigan Senate, which kicked off in January. She serves Michigan’s 21st Senate District, which includes parts of Lansing, Lansing Township, and all of Eaton County.

Legislative leaders named her chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee where she will play an important role in the fiscal year 2024 budget legislation. She is the first Black woman to lead the Appropriations Committee. She previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives for two terms where she was a House Appropriations Committee member in her first term.

Born and raised in Lansing’s south side, Senator Anthony is the daughter of United Autoworkers retirees. She has a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and a master’s from Western Michigan University.

HCAM looks forward to working with her on the important reimbursement issues impacting long-term care.
