Michigan Nurse Aide Registry Update (SNF)

On July 26, 2023, the Michigan Department of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs (LARA) transitioned the registry services for nurse aides from Headmaster, L.L.P to the Bureau of Community and Health Systems (BCHS). In addition to the nurse aides, the registry also serves nurse aide trainers and nurse aide training programs for applications, renewals and updates to registrations and permits. Headmaster, L.L.P. will continue to provide nurse aide testing services. You can find information related to testing at D&S – Headmaster.

The new public nurse aide registry, called MI-NATES, is available to anyone at the following link: BCHS Nurse Aide Public Registry.

• Nurse Aides: Through the transition to the new system, all nurse aides who are lapsed and unable to renew will be given an extended grace period through September 1, 2023, to renew their nurse aide registration. During this time, nurse aides will be able to continue to practice, despite their registration having lapsed.
• Nurse Aide Trainers: BCHS is no longer accepting paper applications regarding nurse aide trainer permits including renewals, changes or new permits. All services for nurse aide trainer permits are now available via the new MI-NATES online system. If you do not renew your permit within 30 days of your expiration date, your permit will go into null and void status. If your permit goes into null and void status, you will need to re-apply for a new permit.
• Nurse Aide Training Programs: BCHS is no longer accepting paper applications regarding nurse aide training program permits including changes or new permits. All services are now available via the new MI-NATES online system. Nurse aide training programs may have one “Authorized Representative” with a MI-NATES account as the designated individual responsible for the nurse aide training program permit.
