New Vaccine and Therapeutics Resources Available (SNF/AL)

In late November, the Biden Administration announced their campaign to improve COVID-19 booster uptake rates. The campaign aims to reach seniors and other communities hardest hit by COVID-19, including nursing homes. As part of this campaign, CMS has focused on the requirement for nursing homes to educate and offer the COVID-19 vaccine, including subsequent boosters, through work with the regional Quality Improvement Organizations (QIO) and others. 

As a result of this push, the Society for Post-Acute and Long Term Care Medicine (AMDA), the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA), the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP), and the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) joined forces to publish a COVID vaccination and therapeutics toolkit. Often referred to by the groups as the “Pax & Vax” toolkit, it contains resources to aid in sharing information with residents, staff, and others about the importance of COVID vaccinations as well as information related to the various therapeutic options available.
