PHE Unwind and Michigan Medicaid Policies

As you know, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is planning for the federal Public Health Emergency (PHE) for COVID-19, declared under Section 319 of the Public Health Service Act, to expire at the end of the day on May 11, 2023.

During the federal PHE, many changes were made to Michigan Medicaid program eligibility, administration and policies to ease rules for providers and prevent Medicaid beneficiaries from losing health care coverage.

Michigan has begun the process of unwinding certain policies that were enacted during the PHE and will continue the unwind process as the authority for these policies expire. A crosswalk that provides information about the policy unwind activities can be found here. This crosswalk will be continually updated with the latest information as the department releases updated policies.

WEBINAR: In addition, HCAM is holding a webinar about the ways the unwinding will impact you. Find out more about that here.
