Preparing for the Public Health Emergency (PHE) Ending in 2023
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) continues to prepare for the eventual end of the PHE, which is currently extended until January 12, 2023. It is anticipated that the PHE will end during 2023; however, no official date has been announced at this time. CMS plans to provide a 60-day notice to states once the end date is set.
Below is the latest MDHHS reminder about changes being made during this transition prior to the end of the PHE. (Also, don’t forget that the 3-day Medicare stay waiver continues to be policy.)
All Providers,
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has issued many COVID-19 Response Medicaid Policy Bulletins and L-Letters which changed existing policy and processes under the guidance of the federal PHE. Many COVID-19 Response policy bulletins and L-Letters are intended to be time-limited, and MDHHS will notify providers of their termination.
In preparation for the end of the PHE, providers are encouraged to begin reviewing recently issued proposed policy bulletins by visiting the Proposed Policy webpage. Providers should review proposed policy bulletins and offer comments, questions, or concerns by the comment due date.
Current proposed policy released for public comment:
- 2249-DMEPOS: Reversal of Temporary COVID-19 Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies (DMEPOS) Policies
- 2224-NEMT: Rescinding COVID-19 Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Flexibilities
