Michigan Certificate of Need Commission Updates Bed Need (SNF)

The Michigan Certificate of Need (CON) Commission approved updating the Nursing Home/HLTCU bed need numbers during their meeting on January 23. The bed need methodology uses a trend line over three subsequent years — the most recent data available to the commission was through 2023. As expected, due to artificially low use during the COVID-19 pandemic, the methodology showed a projected decrease in need in future years, resulting in a reduction of statewide bed need of just over 800 beds. The methodology will be run again in 2027, at which time it is projected that beds will likely be added. You may find updated bed numbers by planning area here.
