Michigan Nurse Aide Registry Changes Coming (SNF/AL)
As of July 26, 2023, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) will transition the registry services for nurse aides from Headmaster, L.L.P to the Bureau of Community and Health Systems (BCHS). BCHS developed a new online system that will serve nurse aides, nurse aide trainers, and nurse aide training programs for applications, renewals, and updates to their registrations and permits. The new system is called “MI-NATES: Michigan Nurse Aide, Training, and Enforcement System.”
There will be blackout periods for services as each is transitioned to the new registry. Listed below are dates and grace periods that will be offered for some services during the blackout periods.
Nurse Aides: The blackout period for all nurse aide registry services is July 11, 2023, through July 26, 2023. During this period, registry services, i.e., nurse aide renewals, changes or new registrations, will not be available. Registrations set to lapse during this period will get a grace period to renew until August 11, 2023. During this time, nurse aides may continue to practice, despite the registration lapse.
Nurse Aide Trainers: The blackout period for all nurse aide trainer registry services is June 23, 2023, through July 26, 2023. On June 23, 2023, BCHS will discontinue accepting paper applications regarding nurse aide trainer permits, i.e., renewals, changes or new permits. Permits set to lapse before June 23, 2023, should renew early to prevent a lapsed status. If not renewed prior to June 23, 2023, renewals may resume on July 26, 2023, via the new MI-NATES online system. Trainers unable to renew prior to June 23 may continue to practice, despite have a lapsed permit; however, trainers must renew as soon as possible on or after July 26, 2023, to prevent going into null and void status, which automatically occurs 30 days after the expiration date. Permits that go into null and void status will require full reapplication for a new permit.
Nurse Aide Training Programs: The blackout period for all nurse aide training program registry services began June 1, 2023, and ends July 26, 2023. On June 1, BCHS discontinued accepting paper applications regarding nurse aide training program permits, i.e., changes or new permits. On July 26, 2023, all services will be available via the new MI-NATES online system. Nurse aide training programs may have one “Authorized Representative” with a MI-NATES account who is the designated individual responsible for the nurse aide training program permit.
The “MI-NATES: Michigan Nurse Aide, Training, and Enforcement System” will be available as an application on the MILogin website soon. Nurse aides, trainers and training programs may create a MILogin account at any time; however, you will not be able to request access to the MI-NATES application until July 26, 2023. Questions?
