New! Pre-Convention Workshop: C3 De-Escalation for Care Providers

Sunday, September 15 | 12:30 – 4:30 pm

Grand Rapids, MI

Everyone who works in long-term care knows that, at times, you need to help people in crisis. That’s why HCAM is hosting an afternoon workshop to help you learn techniques to de-escalate an angry, frustrated or overwhelmed resident in an appropriate, safe, effective manner.

C3 De-escalation is an innovative, practical technique that works with brain functions to calm aggressive or distraught residents. It’s appropriate for use with residents with severe and persistent mental health disorders, substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, dementia, TBIs or intellectual disabilities. This training is for everyone working in skilled nursing or assisted living settings.

Developed by Andra Medea, who taught at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago, C3 was founded to train staff across a broad range of mental health and disability services. With over 6,000 practitioners, C3 is calm, humane and user-friendly. Each workshop participant will receive the C3 De-escalation workbook and will work in teams to create de-escalation action plans for their own workplaces.
