Renew your Nursing Facility License Now

Michigan skilled nursing facility state licenses expire July 31, 2023. The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) notes that it takes approximately three weeks from renewal submission and payment until facilities receive the paper copy of the license. This means facilities should begin the renewal process no later than July 10.

LARA mailed renewal notices to the correspondence address on file for each nursing facility in early June. The renewal process for a state license must be completed through the eLicense portal using a credit card or electronic check to pay for the license. If a state license is not renewed on or before July 31, the license will expire without a grace period and will be considered null and void effective August 1, 2023. This means that a facility will no longer be able to care for residents, be reimbursed for care provided and generally function as a business. If you have questions about the license renewal process or how to change license information, email LARA Bureau of Community and Health Systems, Long-Term-Care State Licensing Section or call (877) 458-2757.
