Request a SNF Quality Reporting Program Exception & Extension

Some facilities have experienced issues accessing the HPS component in NHSN to report the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Quality Reporting Program (QRP) required data on annual HCP influenza vaccination. If your facility was not able to submit the required SNF QRP data by the May 15th 11:59 PM deadline, CMS provides an opportunity to request a Skilled Nursing Facility Quality Reporting Program Reconsideration and Exception & Extension from the program’s reporting requirements in the event the facility was unable to submit quality data due to extraordinary circumstances beyond their control. 

This means SNFs affected by a natural or man-made disaster or other extraordinary circumstances may request an exception or extension by filing a Request for Reconsideration Due to Disaster or Extraordinary Circumstance. The request must be submitted via email to [email protected] with the subject line, “Disaster Exception or Extension Request,” within 90 days of the event.  

SNF VBP Program Webinar Scheduled for May 24, 2023 (SNF)

Last month, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposed rule that would update Medicare payment policies and rates for skilled nursing facilities under the Skilled Nursing Facility Prospective Payment System (SNF PPS) for fiscal year 2024. In addition, the rule includes proposals for the SNF Quality Reporting Program (QRP) and the SNF Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) Program.

CMS is publishing this proposed rule consistent with the legal requirements to update Medicare payment policies for SNFs on an annual basis.

Updated policies for the SNF VBP Program are included in the FY 2024 SNF PPS Proposed Rule in the Federal Register. The SNF VBP Program information is contained on pages 21361–21399. Comments on the proposed rule are due by June 5, 2023.
