Survey Tips – Desk Reviews (SNF)

Providers often ask, Am I eligible for a Desk Review? Utilizing a desk review in lieu of an on-site revisit can be an effective and efficient means of clearing outstanding citations. The Bureau of Community Health Services (BCHS) Survey Division has simplified the question and includes your eligibility for a desk review in your Letter of Notification issued with your CMS-2567. 

Read your Notification carefully, and if it indicates you are eligible for a desk review you can simply begin collecting your data and materials to submit. You are not required to reach out to your Survey Manager to request the desk review and may submit materials post date of compliance that demonstrate your plan of correction actions and monitoring to reflect compliance. With that said, don’t hesitate to contact your Survey Manager with questions, however do not hold off submitting your materials pending responses, especially if you are close to your 40-day post exit date.
