2023 MI-NADONA Virtual Workshop: Fall Prevention & Management

PROGRAM SUMMARY

Falls account for one of the most frequently cited accident/incident related deficiencies accompanied by the highest scope and severity, as well as some of the highest litigation settlement dollars. This webinar will provide insight into fall prevention best practice interventions that address high risk areas for the LTC population.

NURSE LEARNER OUTCOMES

At the conclusion of this session, participants will self-report a knowledge gain of fall prevention best practice interventions that address high risk areas for the LTC population.
 

LEARNER OBJECTIVES

  1. Identify key considerations for fall prevention related to dementia and applying effective interventions based on remaining cognitive abilities.
  2. Understand targeted interventions for common cognitive and psychosocial fall risk factors.
  3. Review targeted interventions for common geriatric deficit areas that contribute to fall risk.
  4. Determine appropriate interventions based on clinical assessment data, falls history trending and person-centered preferences and routines.

Continuing Education

Final determination of contact hours will be published on the website.

RN: Nurse participants may earn up to 3 nurse education contact hours. Health Care Association of Michigan is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Wisconsin Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

NHA:

The Health Care Association of Michigan is a Certified Sponsor of continuing education with the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB).

  • This program has been submitted, but not yet approved for Continuing Education for 3 total participant hours by NAB/NCERS.

CE Reporting:  HCAM will need 30 days after the event conclusion to compile and process all attendance data. Once the data is compiled, certificates will be available to access. Certificate questions should be directed to Mary Gettel. Session attendance for administrators will be reported to NAB using their NAB Registry ID. NAB Registry IDs MUST be submitted during the registration process.

Requirements of Participation:

  1. Conference evaluation is required.
    • This will be emailed to you at the conclusion of the event and must be completed within 72 hours.
  2. Be sure you are entering and exiting sessions at the start and end of the session – if you miss more than 10 minutes because you arrived late or left early, you will not receive credit. It is YOUR responsibility to follow the agenda and be on time!
  3. Attendees caught cheating or violating our attendance policies will not receive credit for the event.
Presenters

Amie Martin, OTR/L, CDP, CHC, RAC-CT, MJ
Amie is an Occupational Therapist, Certified Dementia Practitioner and Clinical Consultant with over twenty-five years of experience serving in LTC leadership positions and as a clinical program specialist. Amie has successfully partnered with providers to promote clinical quality including improved fall prevention and management programs, and has presented extensively on fall prevention and management in post-acute care.

 
Janine Lehman, RN, RAC-CT, CLNC
Janine is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years experience in long term care, working in all nursing capacities from Nursing Assistant and Charge Nurse, to MDS Coordinator, Staff Development Coordinator, ADON and DON. She is MDS Certified through AAPACN, and is a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. Her background includes serving as a Corporate Nurse Consultant, and the Director of Clinical Services for a multi-facility, multi-level of care organization. Janine serves as a founding member of the Kentucky RUG Task Force Committee, and has served on the Case Mix Appeals Panel and IDR Panel as a provider representative, as well as serving on the Kentucky Medicaid Technical Advisory Committee. She has extensive experience in the RAI process, clinical documentation, legal nurse consulting, restorative nursing programs, fall management, QAPI, and infection control, and has provided training on these topics for State and National organizations.
