CMS Quality Improvement Organizations 13th Scope of Work

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has begun the transition from the 12th to the 13th Scope of Work (SoW) for the Quality Improvement Organization Program (QIO). The previous 12th SoW coverage for Michigan comprised of Superior Health QIO, a collaboration of eight different organizations advancing Medicare quality improvement program goals through data-driven technical support, tools and resources for positive quality outcomes, and guidance for regulatory compliance. These services ended on November 7, 2024.

CMS has collected input from QIO Program stakeholders to develop a 13th SoW that assesses the needs of providers, as well as complements, coordinates, or creates initiatives that aligns with the CMS Strategic Pillars. The 13th SoW will be a 5-year contract term anticipated to begin in the coming months.

This transition period will result in a gap of QIO services for Michigan nursing facilities. CMS has collected COVID-19 and other infection control resources to support nursing facilities during this transition process.
