CMS Transitioning MDS to iQIES (SNF)

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is preparing to transition Minimum Data Set (MDS) submissions and reporting to iQIES beginning in early 2023. As a result of this transition, CMS.net will be retired and providers will need utilize only one log-in to access the website. CMS will be releasing a transition timeline, process guidance and FAQ documents in the coming months.

Under the new system, every facility will be required to assign at least one, and better two, individuals designated as Security Officials. The Security Officials will be responsible for managing access for all facility based users and roles. Security Official on-boarding will begin next week, with launches set to be staggered by CMS Region. Currently, CMS Region V is scheduled for on-boarding beginning October 17, 2022. Following the on-boarding process, training for the iQIES system and revised MDS transmission process will begin in mid-November.
