MDHHS Nursing Facility Partnership Presentation Now Available for Viewing

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) conducted a “Nursing Facility Partnership Presentation” on October 31, 2023. The presentation is available for viewing on the MDHHS YouTube channel.

MDHHS created an FAQ document to summarize responses to the many questions asked during the presentation. These FAQs were sent to Michigan nursing facilities on November 14. Important items of note in the FAQs include the following about FY 2022 initial settlements.

Q: MDHHS has received several concerns around cash flow and is actively working to amend policy to permit payment of 100% of the initial settlement amounts. This change will require both a policy change and budget authorization approval by the Legislature. Are there any updates?

A: The budget authorization approval by the Legislature passed on 11/8/2023. The MDHHS Policy team is continuing to actively work on updating the policy.

Q: For those facilities that filed their cost report early and received a Modified Initial settlement, will they be paid at 100% using the updated VCL?

A: Yes. MDHHS is beginning the process of recalculating the early Modified Initial Settlement using the updated VCL and will make the payment out at 100% based on the updated VCL.
