Outbreak of Drug-resistant Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Associated with Artificial Tears (SNF/AL)

The CDC recently issued a health advisory regarding infections with an extensively drug-resistant strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa associated with artificial tears use. A variety of symptoms and sequela have resulted from the infections, including keratitis, endophthalmitis, respiratory infection, urinary tract infection, and sepsis. Patient outcomes include permanent vision loss resulting from cornea infection, hospitalization, and one death due to systemic infection. Individuals using EzriCare artificial tears should immediately discontinue use and notify their physician.
