Five Star – Possible Errors in Health Inspection Calculations (SNF)
As HCAM previously shared, a recent development identified that some of the data that CMS Better Care pulls from the national database for Care Compare may be inaccurate for some providers. Specifically, some Recertification and Complaint Surveys were mislabeled. This caused surveys to be pulled into the Health Inspection Rating calculations that normally would fall outside the correct time-period parameters. It is unknown at this time how many providers have been impacted by this error. Michigan’s Bureau of Survey and Certification is aware of the issue and has shared concerns with CMS.
What Can You Do? Review your most recent Health Inspection calculations to determine if the Recertification and Complaint surveys are labeled appropriately for the time that they were conducted in your facility. If you identify mislabeled surveys, please email details to Colin Bercher.
The American Health Care Association is also communicating with CMS on this issue. HCAM will continue to monitor and share more information when it becomes available.
