PROGRAM SUMMARY

This three-session virtual workshop is the perfect advanced training session for experienced MDS staff. This workshop reviews the various programs that use MDS data: the Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) used for Medicare reimbursement, quality measures and the CMS Five Star rating program. It will also review coding instructions and assessment processes critical to success under these programs and instructions for submitting, modifying or inactivating assessments.

LEARNER OUTCOMES

At the conclusion of this session, participants will:

  1. Self-report knowledge gain of the the rate calculation methodology under PDPM using MDS data elements
  2. Self -report an intent to change practice by applying guidance in the RAI Users Manual related to key MDS items affecting reimbursement and quality measures

LEARNER OBJECTIVES

  1. State the five case-mix adjusted components under PDPM and which MDS items drive each component
  2. Identify the PPS assessments and when each should be completed
  3. Describe the record selection process for quality measures
  4. Articulate the six ways assessments are used in calculating quality measures
  5. Discuss how quality measures are used in the CMS Five Star rating program

Continuing Education

Final determination of contact hours will be published on the website.

RN: Nurse participants may earn up to 12 nurse education contact hours. Health Care Association of Michigan is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Wisconsin Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

NHA:

The Health Care Association of Michigan is a Certified Sponsor of continuing education with the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB).

  • This program has been approved for Continuing Education for 11 total participant hours by NAB/NCERS – approval #20240724-12-A95762-DL

CE Reporting:  HCAM will need 30 days after the event conclusion to compile and process all attendance data. Once the data is compiled, certificates will be available to access. Certificate questions should be directed to Mary Gettel. Session attendance for administrators will be reported to NAB using their NAB Registry ID. NAB Registry IDs MUST be submitted during the registration process.

Requirements of Participation:

  1. Conference evaluation is required.
    • This will be emailed to you at the conclusion of the event and must be completed within 72 hours.
  2. Be sure you are entering and exiting sessions at the start and end of the session – if you miss more than 10 minutes because you arrived late or left early, you will not receive credit. It is YOUR responsibility to follow the agenda and be on time!
  3. Attendees caught cheating or violating our attendance policies will not receive credit for the event.
